Nintendo’s marketing department in the 1980′s declared that all titles released on Nintendo home systems needed to be family-friendly. This led to the Mortal Kombat grey-blood controvery among other things, as well as Vodka Drunkenski here getting his name changed to Soda Popinski. Frankly, I like the soda pop name better, even if it did lose its reference to Russia. I noticed when fighting this guy in the Wii game that he’s definitely one of my favorites. The concept in and of itself is awesome, his roughly-bottle-shaped head is adorable, and his noticeably quick and deadly attacks make him seem somewhat intimidating even though he’s not as difficult as some of the other fighters. Definitely high on my list of best Punch-Out!! opponents. I’m especially pleased with the way the background music lines up with the events in the video. Also gotta love the blue gloves. “I drink to prepare for a fight. Tonight I am very prepared!”

Enrique Iglesias randomly invited fans onto stage to have a drink (vodka and whiski) with him. Maria, a Russian girl with some attitude, spoke no word of English, and two guys from Uzbekistan were translating from English to Russian. When the boys said they were from Uzbekistan the crowd laughed, because most guestworkers in Russia are from rural Uzbekistan taking up petty jobs like street sweeping, construction, farming etc. There is a stereotypical picture of Uzbekistanis (or Tajikistanis) in Russia. When Enrique started singing his fan Ulugbek Ismailov joined him and totally surprised Iglesias and everyone in the concert hall. Ulugbek sang two more songs with Enrique (see my videos). In this video Ulugbek was nervous, he performed better with next two songs. Ultimately Enrique Iglesias without realizing it himself has also done some stereotype sweeping work in Russia and showed that he is a real great musician…Oh, almost forgot, Iglesias also invited Anna Kournikova onto stage at the end of the concert and introduced her as his wife (some fans had left the hall to avoid crowded metro, losers).
